  Map Rebuilding

Okay, Map Rebuilding, something that is not fun to do if you have no idea what your doing, or if the tutorial you are using makes no sense. And being the mod director of this very fine website, I find it my duty to inform you; the guy who has no idea what he's doing, on how to do all this very confusing stuff. Lets begin shall we?

Okay, for this tutorial we will add something simple, we'll add a Wraith to Blood Gulch using HMT3.5. Lets go!

1. First and foremost, we need to extract Blood Gulch's Metadata. So go to Tools>Extract>Batch Extract. A window will pop-up. In the directory where it asks you to extract, browse to your Desktop and create a new folder called Wraith Gulch. In that file create one called Gulch Extract. Click the box that says Metadata and click Extract, when it asks you if you want to save the BSP click YES.

2. After a minute or so a window will pop-up and say how long it took to Batch the map and click Okay. After that goto Tools>Extract>BSP/Model Section. Okay, that will be used later. Just put it in a file called VIB. Next we will need to go get a Wraith.

3. Open up the level b40 (Assault on the Control Room) and scroll down to the [vehi]Vehicles submenu. Open it up and select the Wraith. Notice Above the Resource Broswer another menu Appeared, that is the Tag Information menu, click the box next to 'Save Meta' (The box says 'recursive) and click 'Save Meta'. It will prompt you with where you want to save the Meta of the Wraith, browse to your Wraith Gulch folder and create a sub folder in that called Wraith. Save the Meta into that folder.

4. Okay you now have the Wraith extracted but the model is, lets just say, funky. We need to make the model perfect. So lets do that.

5. Click Tools>Generate Raw Model Offset list (CSV file) and save it somewhere in Wraith Gulch (I put mine in a file called Offsets in subfolders for whatever level they are the offsets for (Example: Offsets/b40)) With that done we will extract the raw model for the Wraith. Click Tools>Extract>Raw Model. Another window will pop-up now (MonoxideC sure did like his windows...) it will have two options 'Extract' and 'Load CSV'. Well since you have nothing to extract yet, click 'Load CSV'. Locate the CSV file you just made and click Open.

6. Now that you have the CSV open, we need to Extract the Raw Model Data of the Wraith, look around in all of this jumble until you find the Wraith. Then click Extract, you will have to extract the new Wraith to the EXACT place where the old one is. It will be in Wraith GulchWraithvehicleswraith. After that click save and your almost done! Just a few more steps!!

7. Now to Decrap the models. Okay this isn't a very hard process. Click Tools>Model Decrapper/BSP Builder. In the big blank area right click and click Add. Browse to Wraithvehicleswraith and add wraith.mod2.meta. Okay thats all we have to add there, in the three bottom spaces click browse and brose to VIB and open up the Vertices file (For Vertices one) Indicies (For Indicies one) and the BSP (For BSP one). Click 'Decrap these models and build a new BSP chunk while we're at it. Okay that will finish after a few seconds and then you will be just one step from completion. Browse to the VIB folder, select the sbsp.meta file. copy and paste it in BG extractlevelstestbloodgulch. Okay, now that you've done that you need to copy all of these files to one directory. Go to Wraith Gulch in another window and create a new folder called Build. Copy all of the contents of BG Extract, Wraith (Not the folder wraith, just the contents of it) and place a copy of bloodgulch.map (make sure you have a backup of it.)

8. Okay, almost done, just have to rebuild it. Click Tools>Rebuild Map. Where it says Original Map click browse and open up the Build file. Select the copy of BG you put in there and when it asks to Autofill click Yes. Down at the bottom will be a blank area, click add and browse to BuildVehiclesWraith and select ONLY these Meta files: wraith.vehi.meta and wraith.mod2.meta. After both of those are added click build. It will ask if any new Vertices have been added, browse to VIB and select vertices.new, it then asks if any new Indicies have been added, browse to VIB again and select indicies.new. It will ask if you want to use a modified offset, click Yes. Assuming you did everything right, you should now have a Wraith in Blood Gulch. Next you'll need to open up the Bloodgulch.map.rebuild.map in Sparkedit and click Edit>Import Tag and add the Wraith and your done! Now all you need to do is swap a vehicle for it, and rename its seat in HMT3.5 from wraith-Driver to W-Driver.

Congrats. You have just added a brand new vehicle to Blood Gulch, and learned how to rebuild maps with perfect models. I hope this helped you!
